WAGGA WAGGA DISTRICT

1.     K-6 SCIENCE and TECHNOLOGY WORKSHOP FOR SCHOOL CO-ORDINATORS.

Venue : Riverina Australian Rules Football Club, Wagga Wagga                                               

Date / Time : Monday, 24th March 2003         9.00a.m. - 3.30p.m.

Cost : Nil - (Morning tea and lunch provided)

Relief Schools responsible for meeting relief costs.

Overview : The workshop will focus on informing school co-ordinators of current issues in K-6 Science and Technology. Co-ordinators will be provided with resources to :

Dr Rod Francis from CSU will conduct a session exploring effective pedagogy in K-6 Science and Technology.

 

2.    "DISCOVER GOLD TODAY"   -   STAGE 3 TEACHERS.

Venue         :  Charles Sturt University, Wagga Wagga  ( Room 232 - Curriculum Centre)

Cost : Nil (participants able to purchase the 'Discover Gold Today' teaching kit for $11 (half  price).

Presenter     : Simon Andrews - Education Manager, NSW Minerals Council.

Information was distributed to all schools in Week 4. Applications must be forwarded to NSW Minerals Council. Please contact District Science and Technology consultant for further information.

This course  provides us with a rare opportunity to access a workshop normally only available to metropolitan teachers. A minimum of 15 participants is required to run the workshop. Apply early.

 

 

GRIFFITH DISTRICT

1.       K-6 Science & Technology -"Assessing Student Research Projects"

This workshop provides participants with an opportunity to view sample entries (including from the Young Intel Scientists Awards.) The presenter for this workshop will be - Dagmar Arthur -  Co-ordinator QTP Science Project.  Dagmar is based in Ryde,and comes with a wealth of experience and expertise.

Participants will also be provided with an opportunity to use holistic marking guidelines to assess sample projects and to experience processes that have been put in place to enhance consistency of judgement. The workshop concludes with a discussion of common understandings about scientific investigations.

PLEASE NOTE : This exhibition remains at the Narrandera Shire Library until March 3rd. It is suitable for teachers/students and provides excellent examples of 'scientific investigation'. 

Student work is in 4 categories-Working model, Multi-media, Creative Writing, Scientific research.

                        It is anticipated this will be the first of a series of Network meetings designed to support teachers in the classroom and encourage sharing of ideas / expertise!
